Bio

Professional tuba player Daniel Clouse is an active soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, educator, and arts organizer. A versatile, musician, he is at home conducting, playing his tuba, or picking banjo. He has taken the stage with renowned artists such as Aaron Neville and Liza Minelli. He serves as Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at North Carolina Central University and Assistant Dean of Students at Brevard Music Center. He recently finished his Doctorate in Music at the University of North Carolina Greensboro where he also studied Nonprofit and Arts Administration.

Mr. Clouse is active as an arts organizer and entrepreneur. He is a founding member of the Red Canoe Music Festival in Hickory, NC. The festival provides access to the arts for disadvantaged communities in the rural Piedmont through performance of chamber music. Mr. Clouse is also a member of The Zinc Kings, a Piedmont Old Time band, whose mission is to preserve and share the folk music of the central Piedmont. The band recently completed recording its first CD, tentatively titled “Antique Shop,” to showcase the Piedmont Blues, and historical playing styles. Daniel previously served as Assistant Program Coordinator for Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, which serves more than 5,000 students each summer.

In addition to his musical activities, Mr. Clouse has a background as a programmer and web designer. He has done Information Technology work for numerous prominent companies, including, Proctor and Gamble, Wells Fargo, Fannie Mae, and Orange-Glo. He gained a reputation of excellence and professionalism with his clients. He holds a Masters degree in Music Theory and Technology from the University of Tennessee, where his research focuses on the use of software in the instruction of music fundamentals and aural skills. His writings explore ways that modern software can aid scholarly research in the college music setting.

A native of rural Michigan, Mr. Clouse has made his home in the North Carolina Piedmont. He spends his free time making pottery, hiking in the mountains, and perfecting his southern drawl.
